Emergency & Veterinary Care Policy
Effective Date: February 10, 2025

This Emergency & Veterinary Care Policy outlines the procedures and responsibilities of both Mid Shore Animal and Home Sitting, LLC (“Service Provider”) and the Client regarding emergency situations and veterinary care for the Client’s animal(s) while under the care of the Service Provider.
1. AUTHORIZATION FOR EMERGENCY CARE
a. The Client authorizes the Service Provider to act on their behalf in the event of an emergency involving the Client’s animal(s) and/or home.
b. The Service Provider will make reasonable efforts to contact the Client before seeking emergency care; however, if the Client is unavailable or immediate action is required, the Service Provider may proceed with necessary care.
2. VETERINARY CARE AUTHORIZATION
a. The Client authorizes the Service Provider to transport the animal(s) to the designated veterinarian or, if unavailable, to the nearest available veterinary facility for emergency treatment.
b. The Client grants the Service Provider permission to approve necessary medical treatment (excluding euthanasia unless expressly authorized in writing).
c. The Client agrees to provide a monetary limit for emergency treatment. The Client acknowledges that if the required treatment exceeds this amount, the veterinary provider may require further authorization from the Client before proceeding.
3. CLIENT FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
a. The Client assumes full financial responsibility for all veterinary expenses incurred, including but not limited to examinations, treatments, medications, hospitalization, and emergency transport.
b. The Client agrees to reimburse the Service Provider for any out-of-pocket expenses related to the emergency care of the animal(s), including veterinary bills, medications, and any additional supplies required for continued care.
c. If the Client’s designated veterinarian is unavailable or refuses treatment, the Client understands that the Service Provider may use their discretion to seek care from another qualified provider.
4. LIABILITY WAIVER
a. The Client understands that the Service Provider is not a licensed veterinarian and cannot diagnose, prescribe, or provide medical treatment beyond basic first aid.
b. The Service Provider will not be held liable for injuries, illnesses, reactions, or death that occur despite reasonable care or medical intervention.
c. The Client waives any claims against the Service Provider related to decisions made in good faith regarding emergency veterinary care.
5. INCLEMENT WEATHER & NATURAL DISASTERS
a. In the event of severe weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergencies, the Service Provider will use their best judgment in caring for the animal(s) and securing the home.
b. If travel becomes unsafe, the Service Provider may remain with the animal(s) until conditions improve or make alternative arrangements for their care.
c. The Service Provider will not be held liable for any delays, service cancellations, or complications caused by force majeure events, including but not limited to hurricanes, snowstorms, floods, fires, or power outages.
6. BACKUP CARE & SERVICE SUBSTITUTION
a. In the event of an emergency that prevents the Service Provider from fulfilling scheduled services (e.g., illness, accident, or personal emergency), the Service Provider reserves the right to assign a substitute sitter or make alternative care arrangements.
b. If no substitute is available, the Client will receive a full refund for any prepaid services that cannot be completed.
7. AGREEMENT TO TERMS
By booking services, the Client acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agreed to this Emergency & Veterinary Care Policy. The Client understands their financial obligations and responsibilities regarding emergency care and waives liability against the Service Provider for any reasonable actions taken in an emergency.
